I'm working very hard, and killing many brain cells with the new version of GolfStats. This one will blow away the old system and has many new and awesome features. Today I put the finishing touches on the system's ability to calculate the user's USGA handicap index, based on up to the last 20 rounds. It has taken me a coupe of hard, brain draining days. For those of you in the UK or Europe, the next step is the ablity to track COGNU handicaps.
One cool new feature in the new version of GolfStats is the settings panel. In there the user can customize the kind of tracking he/she wants to do. Very basic golf scores and golf handicapping via USGA or COGNU (others possible later) can be selected, or the full and mind blowing golf stats tracking can be selected. Full stats tracks everything: ball striking, putting, scoring, hazards, bets... Heck, it may even predict the weather and scores of future sporting events.
 
Once I have the COGNU system running, I have some more work to do on the ADD/EDIT round portion of GolfStats. Once that is done I'll get it up and running here for a maiden voyage. The problem, is that with each new feature I install, a whole pandora's box of possibilities and complexities opens up. |

I'm capable of hitting great golf shots. I've hit thousands of them. I'm also capable of completely gagging and hitting horrid golf shots, like today when I limped to the finish line on the last two holes with bogey and double bogey to make a good round turn into a mediocre one. So why can't I hit good shots more consistently? Why is it that I can play great golf for 15-16 holes but gag the last couple? How can I be -7 after 12 holes and shoot 74? How can I shoot a 31 on the front and a 41 on the back? How can I shoot 68 on a course one day and then shoot an 85 on the same damn course the next? Sometimes it seems like I can't stand success during a round. It is all mental baby.
I do have the physical ability and the coordination to hit a great golf shot. Many people do. But why don't they do it more often or more consistently? Their brains get in the way. During rounds I know my focus drifts and bad swing faults and bad habits take over.

By nearly a 3-1 ratio, the "Scorpion" submission was the winner for the new Golf Space logo! Below is the original, tweaked to move the flag to a place which makes more sense. I also had them remove the stars in the background, which cleaned it up more. I modified the original submission's colors to match the current color scheme. Here are both, left is the new version and right is the original submission color scheme.
