This morning was like every other morning in my golf trials. I hit the irons very well mostly, am driving the fairway 15 of 18 and when in the rough hitting out fairly well and not losing any balls. Thanks to my trusty 7i I give myself 6 birdie tries from less than 15 ft. and make 2 of those, par the others. I had par on 3 more holes thanks to great chips that left me with 1ft. tap-ins. So all-in-all I had 2 birdies and 7 pars over 18 holes. So if I could just shoot bogey golf on the other 9 holes, I'd have a 7 over 79. Which would break my best score at that particular course by 5. (125 slope) Unfortunately, thanks to 2 disaster holes where I shot an 8 and a 9 (the 8 was on a 200 par3, the 9 on a 365 par 4), Left me with a final score of 87 which is 2 strokes over my normal score there. Even though I was striking the ball better than normal and putting better than normal.
The culprit was skulled chips on those 2 holes. I skulled one 25 yds past the green on a 30 yd. lob shot then chunked it to the fringe to 3-putt my way to suicide. Every round I'll have a mental collapse in the short game on 1 or 2 holes. Mentally I'm frazzled because usually chipping is my bread and butter. Was it divine intervention not permitting me to break 80?
