Ask a Pro: Lining the putter up correctly E-mail

When putting a method that most tour players use is to pick an intermediate target on the green between your ball and the hole.  This may be a spot on the green such as an old ball mark, difference in the color of the green or other small spots that stand out.  The intermediate target will be the line that you want the ball to travel on based on how the putt breaks.  Sometimes on longer putts you can pick two targets and play connect the dots when you putt.  This should help you start the ball on line off the putter and you will find yourself making more putts.

The best part of my game is putting. That being said, I don't pick intermediate targets that often. I do pick some when I see a guy's ball mark or something to aim for when there's a lot of break though. I sort of see a line, the width of the hole, going all the way from my ball to the hole. This is similar to a golf movie I remember. I think it was bagger vance or bobby jones.
