Paul Azinger, the 2008 Ryder Cup captain, sent a message to the 2008 American Ryder Cup hopefuls. He has stated he will use his 4 captain's picks on players who win tournaments. The Americans will take on the European team, lead by Nick Faldo, at Valhalla Golf Club September 19-21. The first 8 players in the Ryder Cup points system will automatically join the team and Azinger will be free to pick the 4 others to round out the American team. So let's look at players 10 through 20 in the current ranking with wins on the 2008 season. Currently there are 4 players with one win, J.B. Holmes, Steve Lowery, D.J. Trahan, and Sean O'Hair. I believe when it comes selection time we will have 8 or more players with one win, all vying for the last two or three spots. Below I have listed players currently in positions 10-20. Which 4 players would you choose out those currently positioned 10 through 20? By the way, Tiger Woods is ranked first but is out for the season and will not participate, therefore spots 2-9 will make the team. I'll take, Stricker, Johnson, Mahan, and Lowery.

There's a good mix of youth and experience in the current #2 through #9! Should they stay the same, I would choose as my Captain's picks: Johnson, Holmes, Bryant and Mediate. In addition, I would set the 2-man teams as follows: Cink & Mediate, Perry & Bryant, Mickelson & Furyk, Weekley & Holmes, Leonard & Johnson, Kim & Snedeker. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
