St. Rule Trophy, St. Andrews Old Course. E-mail

One of the main amateur ladies tournaments, The St. Rule Trophy, is being held tomorrow, Sunday 25th May, over two rounds on the Old Course at St. Andrews.

This has become a prestigious trophy for the up and coming amateur golfers looking to follow in the footsteps of past champions Annika Sorenstam and Catriona Matthew.

The tournament has been reduced to a one day event, two rounds over the Old Course, from three due to the Bi-Annual Curtis Cup being held over the Old for the first time next weekend. The St. Rule organisers gambled on an entry from the Great Britain & Ireland and the American teams but neither members of the these teams have entered which I'm sure is a disappointment to them. I personally think that the respective Team Captains of the Curtis Cup do not want their girls playing what effectively will be a two round strokeplay shoot-out prior to an intense match play event. A completely different game.

I shall be caddieing in the St. Rule tomorrow for a young French girl called Clemence Abrahamian. Having done a quick 'Google' she is certainly a good player, winning the under 18's French Championship earlier this year. Let us hope that this form is still with her and I can assist in guiding Clemence around the Old Course.

We have a reasonable tee times, 9.30am & 2.30pm, so if we can hit the first round steadily around par and get to know each other over the 4 hours then we can GO for everything during the second round.

It is always a super event and though shortened to two rounds it will still be a be a blast. Great to be inside the ropes watching these future professionals begin their careers, especially so around the Old Course.

The weather forecast looks good: light cloud cover am , clearing to sunshine pm with a light to strong sea breeze from the East. If I get home in time and still have some energy left I'll post a synopsis of our two rounds.

Cheers, Boynie.
