I'm getting bored by the gym, so my wife and I took a Nordic Pole Walking class on Friday. It's fun and good exercise.

Cross country skiers from Finland started pole walking because they wanted to stay in shape during the off-season.

I have a customer in Finland who told me pole walking is very popular there. I bet we'll see an infomercial on pole walking soon.

This morning I made a hole-in-one on the 12th hole of my home course, Laurel View Country Club in Hamden, CT. I hit a seven iron from 159 yards. This is the second ace of my unheralded golf career. The bar bill was only $113.

Ivy League golf

Tomorrow I'm playing Yale University's golf course, which is ranked the number one college course in the country. It's an old-school layout with rolling terrain, narrow fairways, deep bunkers and some blind shots. The 238 yard par three ninth hole has an eight foot deep "trench" that divides the green in two. I'll bring my camera and try to post some pictures.

This weekend it's football, not golf.

I'm going to the 124th Harvard-Yale game on Saturday. I've lived in CT for more than 20 years and my house is only a driver, three wood, and four iron from the Yale Bowl, so it's about time.

Memorable Golf Moment

I've had lots of great times on the golf course with my family and friends, but one of my favorite golf moments occurred while I was in Salt Lake City on a business trip about 10 years ago. Before a flight home I decided to play 18 at Wingpointe Golf Course, which is an outstanding links layout on the grounds of the SLC airport. Change your focus, improve your putting

Almost every golfer knows about the "triangle". Maintaining the triangle formed by the shoulders and hands while accelerating the putter head through the ball usually results in a putt that has a good chance of finding the cup. This fundamental has always worked for me, at least until the start of this season when my hands decided to take control.
