Keep in mind I didn't write the code that requires the comment. I may be able to mod it so it doesn't require the text.

As far as the thumbs down, we had it before and from an administration standpoint it is very useful. When I see someone who is getting negative karma (which I see as an admin), then I know when someone is being out of line or spamming people. I've used the negative karma clues to track down spammers and ban their accounts. Obviously the concept is more of an ebay type rating than the standard karma.

I do think the text should be optional and it should "appear" somewhere if it is used, like ebay's feedback. I can see that the text is stored in the database in a strange place so maybe that is more of an administrative thing.

Is that a drive karma then? I also wonder where the text goes...and who reads it? Will TK have to invent another section for this.

Well strangely the text goes to the IP log (which tracks the IP's and usernames of people who submit it). This is presumably to understand why a person was rated the way they were. But the IP log is deleted constantly so I don't know how really "useful" that is. It is definitely possible to do a "feedback" page from that text, similar to ebay. But each profile has profile comments as well so that is sort of redundant. Would people here want a "my karma" page where they can see all their karmas and the comments people post? For those with hundreds or thousands that could be a lot of data!

On the main page or the profile? I'm not a fan of the green hands. I was thinking of getting rid of them on the main page and just having the following:

Name :: Monthly :: Yearly :: Percentage

Maybe get rid of the karma's and the contest and input some type of way to say a quick hello (wave or wink) to someone without having to send a message....
