Can hit further with three wood than with driver? 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Ok here is my dilema!

I have this expensive driver (ok expensive for me) Its got a humungus head on it. You could not miss the ball even if you were blind But it makes a bloddy noise every time I hit the ball. Its also light, but not waighted. I have tried a similar olyo (norwegian make) and a titlist, But I can still hit further with a three wood?
My dilema is that I cannot get further than 220 with the wood. I bought the driver to solve that problem and it has not obviously Any idea,s?

One thing comes to mind -- are you trying too hard with the driver? E.g. you want to hit it a mile, so you're swinging harder, which is throwing off your timing? Maybe try swinging it easier and see what happens . . .

Not the reason. I do swing it easier. I swing back much slower than I swing forward. It has nothing to do with my aiming. I am managing to put the ball where I want it to go. Which is a great improvment for me. But with the calloway 460x it just don,t go? I was thinking that maybe I should try a more waighted head? Not sure about that though?

One problem could be lack of loft on your driver. if you have a low lofted driver e.g 7-9 degrees but not enough clubhead speed you will struggle to get it to carry far enough. All comes down to spin rates. If you get a chance use a launch monitor and compare the spin rate with your driver and three wood, there should be a significant difference. Too stiff a shaft can also affect spin rates. Hope this helps

To take full advantage of today's driver technology you should get a fitting. Far to many variables to answer your question fully. Loft and shaft are just two.

I suggest a fitting as well and get it done outdoors. I am hitting a Ping G5 stiff shaft, 9 degree loft, and most would laugh...but once I was fitted outdoor, I could see and feel the difference and I am hitting it further than my old G2 10 degree. I can not hit a 3 wood further.
