Ahhhh.....
Did you play baseball before ?

Someone once told me: "Don't swing at the ball, swing through it"

Try this, works for some, kicked ass for me !!

Tee up the ball as normall, place another tee in the ground about 6 inches in front of the ball, but push it down enough out of the way.

Line up as you would, but now keep in mind that you want to swing through the ball and hit the second tee too.

It forces you to bring your body through instead of leaning back on you back foot, like a baseball swing.

HA HA....Hockey grip huh. Well, thats good your hitting the ball better right now. However, i dont think the consistancy will be there forever. Your hockey grip must be compensating for some other flaw in your swing. Making you fell as if you need that grip to get the club head square. The grip is one of the most important things in golf. It is the first thing you do before hitting a golf ball. when i started i used the baseball, then interlock, then overlap, now i used a hybrid interlock/overlap. If you want to get better, i suggest either going back to the baseball and trying to figure out why you cant get the club head square. Also, experiment with interlock too. I know it feels wierd, but in the long haul you will be more consistant.

The overlapping grip without the interlocking little fingers is probably the healthiest grip to use. I used them all and found that I did not have the elbow, shoulder, neck and back problems when I got my hands closer together and make a more upright stance. As TD mentioned, the Right Hand Lower gets that Right shoulder lower and lowers your head and your entire stance to bend you back way too far. It will work for the first nine and depending on how young you are you may make through 18, but if you get in an event or tournament and have to grind out the strokes you want make it to18. The golf swing has been engineered by a lot of folks that came before us and the overlap grip has to be the one that has lasted the longest and provides a more relaxed swing that burns less energy. Stick to this grip and you will play the game longer…
