Putting and chipping from semi green? 1 Year, 1 Month ago
You know how you have the green and then you have the semi green round the edge. Am I allowed to use my putter from the semi green or even further out for that matter?
I have seen others doing this,They say because its easier. To this date I have been chiping with my Sandwedge. I kinda skoop the ball so that it rolls over my club head.I send it just past the flag so that it rolls back when it hits the green. But at times I would have just prefered using my putter if it were alowed!

You can use any club at anytime. Using the putter not only on the green but as a way to get the ball and rolling quickly is a very common shot (often called the Texas wedge). Some use the putter as a crutch when they feel uncomfortable with chipping the ball. But using it from the fringe is often the right shot. You will need to practice and experiment with different shots around the green and learn as many options as you can.

Tom Watson said to control the ball around the green, keep it on the ground or as close to it as possible...thus the putter is a good choice. I normally chip with my 7 iron...it seems to give me the loft and carry I need. I don't know about the courses in Norway, but here in the US many courses are so closely groomed, you could use the putter form 150 yards. There are no rules as to which club you must use in any given circumstances.
