You SIR are correct ... having attending many DEMO Days ... Alot of the (Insert compnay Names here) show off there clubs ... get the old launch monitor and give you the old sell job on getting new STICKS ... I agree with outdoor fitting to see and feel the performance of the clubs .... But I am leery of a 'Fitting" without some basic measurements and observations of performance.

Your question about standard lenght depends on what company you are talking about. The STANDARD LENGTH can be plus or minus as much as 2 inches.

I see I'm a little late in replying to this topic, but I view it with great interest as I'm a hobbyist clubmaker. But I'm curious to hear more people's opinions and experiences regarding using a clubmaker to get a club or a set of clubs either built or modified for them.
Fire some out, I was reluctant to start a new post at the risk of being redundant, would probably work better in a poll form, do we have that ability on here? throw some out there and they could be part of the poll selections, I think some of the more obvious usual answers are things like: my swing is not there yet, I'm not good enough, too expensive, no one available locally. Most of the forums I frequent are mostly clubmakers and hobbyists so views there tend to skew, this forum could probably provide some insight into the golfing public's perception, at the same time generate some activity in the forums section and be informative.

Thanks!

Polls are definitely possible...

The one time I tried a fitting was odd.

Tech: Hit some drivers into the simulator.
Me: Ok. (hit about 5 drivers).
Tech: Ok you hit your driver about 200 yards.
Me: Um, no my average is 289 (calculated on the TGS game tracker)
Tech: Well this is based on sea level.
Me: I'd lose 90 yards at sea level? Wow.
Tech: Ok sir, hit this 6-iron into the net. Your ball is on a plastic swing analyzer which shows your divot pattern so we can evaluate your lie etc.
Me: Ok. (It a few 6-irons).
Tech: (picks up plastic analyzer and looks at my divot pattern) Hmmm, I've never seen one like this before. Hey Bob, come over here and tell me what you think of this.
Bob: (looks at my divot pattern)Hmmm, I've never seen one like this. Perhaps you should just go with a standard lie and loft on your clubs...

I'd definitely qualify that as odd.
