GPS range finders 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Anyone here using a GPS range finder during your rounds? Not looking for a brand name or anything like that, just if it has benefited your game any? Thanks.

If they weren't so dang expensive, I probably would be. Right now I have an old basic monocular distance estimator, you know the cheap look through the lens and measure the height of the flag against the scale. At least it gives me a little better idea about which club would be a better choice for the circumstances.

I have the same "monocular" that you have, I have gotten better at judgeing distance so I don't use it as often as I used to. I really want a Skycaddie but most of the courses I play aren't set up yet. I will probably wait for more course particapation and hopefully lower priceing.

If you want some thing that can real help you game? Go to www.golfwits.com, You can download the course and print out the yardage. The only down part of this is you still have to go a little calculating of distance.

It appears that the GPS devices have some kind of subscription service for downloading more course data. That kind becomes a mark against in my book.

Anybody using any of the electronic/laser rangefinders? I've heard mixed things from other sources, hard to hold steady on target is the most common. Opinions?

Or just do what I've done since I started golfing, walk it off from the nearest marker and move on.

I have both and love my GPS one better than my laser.....
Pros for GPS
1) Turn unit on and its ready to go
2) Nice when its cart path only and need yardage across fairway

Cons for GPS
1) Have to make sure that battery is charged
2) Have to download course from internet
3) Have to give it a few seconds to get right yardage

Hope that help would not buy GPS that charges a yearly plan.
