I think you can gain additional points by having a player activated who has a hot day, but may be way back in the pack. So, if you have some "losers" on your team, you might get lucky if one of them has a stellar day. The trick is, of course, knowing which one and when to activate him. I think this is true, be sure to read the rules closely.
