Winter golf is on the way 1 Month, 1 Week ago

Summers here the temp goes over 100F. Winters, like last year, we can go for 5-6 months with snow on the ground. The temps are supposed to drop here and we already have snow in the mountains.
When the courses are open during the winter, the ground and lakes are frozen. I have an entirely different golf bag for winter. One which holds tons of warm clothes and accessories to help deal with the cold like space heaters, glove and hand warmers etc. I'll almost always walk the course rather than riding because it is so much easier to get warm that way.
My game sucks in the winter and I hate being cold. But I'll swing a club in the frozen tundra if that is my only option.

Your right to keep golfing Tony even though your conditions sound horrendous. How high up are you?
Winter conditions not really set in here still lovely autumnal weather, though the green keepers at St. Andrews have started there winter preparations over the last week, coring some of the fairways and getting ready to really go to work on the greens when November hits. They will be re-revetting some of the 112 bunkers on the Old Course prior to the 2010 Open as well. It is always a sign that my caddie golf season is coming to a close...now I can get out and hit a few balls!

I'm at around 5000 feet above sea level, roughly about what Denver is (only we have much better ski snow than Colorado, 2002 Winter Olympics..).
Yes all of the courses have already punched the greens and some greens have already come back fine before they go to sleep for the winter. Others, like one of my home courses, are the worst they've been in years.
The real thing which sucks about winter golf for me is that I have a bad back. In colder temps my flexibility is terrible and it is frustrating to try and swing. During the winter I lose my game. Every year I start out and go up to about a 3-4 HCP and it takes all summer to carve it back down to a 1. Then winter hits. If I could live and play in warm weather all year I think I'd be able to break scratch.

Winter golf is GREAT here! It finally is staying below the triple digit marks and the mornings are spectacular. Nothing like golfing at 6:15 am on Sunday mornings with the boys.... sunny blue skies and a balmy 73 degrees. TK, I suggest a winter trip to sunny Arizona to cure your golf winter blues. I sympathize with you, because that is how it was when I lived in Idaho.

I hope to make several trips down south to try and keep my game in the same zip code it is now...

Still in the mid 70's in Philly, normal temp for this time of year is mid 60's. I'll play as long as there is no snow on the ground. When it gets below 45 I will walk 9 holes. I agree with Tony its easier to keep warm while walking, but I can only take it for about 2 hours and usually bale out at the turn.
